Summer vacations (5)
“I hate summer vacations… well I hate working after summer vacations…” That’s what Kelly Seinfield says to her best friend and colleague Juno Karlov who answers “Tell me about it. I already miss those beach days”.
Both women are in their late 40’s almost 50 years old and both work at the same place, taking care of children but these are little children and they must prepare everything for when children come back. They start cleaning the classrooms until they suddenly feel a strange warmth spread through the air, like a sudden summer breeze. Juno blinks, feeling a tingle race across her skin. “Did the AC just break or…?”
Before she could finish, the change begins. June’s clothes start loosening as her figure subtly shifts. Her hips narrow slightly, her waist slim into a more youthful curve, and her chest deflates to teenage firmness. Wrinkles smooth from her face, her eyes turn dark brown. Her professional makeup fades into a natural, sun-kissed glow with a smattering of light freckles across her nose. Her blonde hair darkens into a chestnut then brunette hair longer finishing this rejuvenating teenage body perfectly modest yet flattering. Beside her Kelly gasps as she undergoes the same metamorphosis. Her blonde hair darkens into playful waves that frame a fresh, innocent face. Her mature curves soften into an athletic and energetic build of another teenage girl. Their clothes shimmer and transform melting away into one-piece swimsuits that hug their new bodies, the fabric smooth and cool against their skins, black swimsuit for Juno and blue one for Kelly.
In the meantime, the room they were in has changed for a nice place and in front of them a beach, hearing the waves and suddenly hearing people speaking French with a huge flag of France on top of the house like every public building. Their memories change deeply as Juno becomes Sophie Marie Crouzet, a 15 years old girl from Lyon, she comes down to the beach every year since her birth and she loves it as much as she loves her best friend. Kelly is now Laura Charlotte Erlanger, she’s also 15 years old from Lyon, she goes to the same spot for the same number of years. Sophie and Laura go to the same high school, they’re best friends since kindergarten because their parents know each other since a long time as well.
When they wake up, the girls have their bags in front of them filled with sunscreen, towels, and snacks. Somehow Sophie and Laura remember briefly their old lives as Laura says “Sophie… qu’est-ce qui s’est passé! Regardes-nous… on est… des ados…” [Sophie… what happened! Look at us… we’re… teenagers…]
Sophie laughs, her voice lighter and full of carefree energy. She twirls once, admiring how her swimsuit feels so right on her body. “On est ados… au lycée… et fini les responsabilités… nous… sommes juste des lycéennes… putain on en rêvait… et maintenant…” [We’re teenagers… in high school… no more responsibilities… we… are just high schoolers… damn we dreamed about it… and now…]
They step onto the warm sand together, the sun kissing their skin. They look at each other, hugging and kissing each other as if it was normal, no more husbands, they’re together ready to start again. They finally run through the sand and toward the water to their parents watching them smiling as Laura’s mom says “Allez les filles… et après la plage on s’achète des glaces.” [Come on girls… and after the beach we buy ice cream.]
Sophie and Laura sprint to water, both of them giggling like the carefree teenagers they are now. Later the girls pose for these adorable pictures with Sophie on the left in her black swimsuit and Laura in her blue swimsuit holding bag and some scrapping books to draw, Laura publishes the pictures saying:
[I love summer vacations, you’re free, you can spend hours doing, eating whatever you want with whoever you want. My dream vacation with my best friend going to the beach drawing and eating ice creams.]
