March Madness (1)
Life is hard for Melissa Tornton, she’s in her 50’s and she hates her life… well she hates her poor choices… she could have chosen better college, better job, better husband but all started at high school when she had this incident during danse and she broke her ankle badly enough to stop her dance career and after that it’s a dark hole, she was bullied, mocked, her school year didn’t end well, her college didn’t start good, she met wrong people and married finally the bad guy who beat her and never gave her what she has ever wanted… children.
And every night before falling asleep she whispers her wish to start again and make the right choices this time. Tonight is the right one, her husband was once again violent and when Melissa finally fell asleep, she went through the strangest dream, all white walls and an angel right before her… she has no idea if it’s a man or woman but it is such beautiful being with wings all white as it speaks with ethereal voice: “Hello Melissa… no you’re not dead but you might if you stay living with your husband… I give you the chance to change life… coming back several years before… however… your life will never be the same and you will not leaving in the 1980’s and 1990’s… is it good for you?”
Melissa on the verge of crying answers: “Pl… please… who ever you are… I… I accept everything… I… I just want to change life… please…”
Then the angel smiles and suddenly Melissa falls asleep only to wake up in a bedroom… first she thought it was only a dream but as her eyes are wide opened… she realizes something is wrong… her room is different… the bed is one place… the walls around are covered with… female basketball players posters… all signed, a ball with signatures from… Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark. Her eyesight blurs all the sudden, she sees glasses next to her bed, she puts them on and can see clearly that her bedroom is like a teenage sports fan room. She gets up and sees herself wearing a cute pair of panties with tank top, she wonders what is all this… on a desk she sees lots of books and notes from high school, she sees on the desk an ID, she takes it with her eyes in complete shock as she reads:
Melissa watches the ID with a mix of curiosity and fear, the picture on the ID shows a teen girl with blond hair, brown eyes with glasses and a huge smile with braces. When she sees that, she instinctively passes her tongue on her teeth and feels the braces. She runs to a mirror and with shock realizes she’s that Maureen Calloway.
As she realizes that, she hears a voice calling her downstairs: “Maureen hunnie… breakfast’s ready…”
On automatic pilot, she comes downstairs, her head is in the fog as her memories change, her life of bad choices disappear to be the life of a teenage girl, great basketball player with her girls of her team… she’s not captain but she’s a great asset on the team and coach might promote her after today’s match since the actual captain is going to leave school anyway.
As her memories sink in, she says hi with a big, sweet smile to her mom and dad, they talk to each other as eating breakfast. After that she takes a quick time in the bathroom before going to the gym since the basketball match starts in 2 hours, she’s in high school at 8 am all dressed in her green basketball outfit with short and top with written on the front in large letters MURRAY 20 underneath she’s got Nike black sport bra, her black socks and shoes. Her hair undone, glasses on and her sweet braces smile.
Before the match begins, she poses with a ball for these three pictures showing no longer a shy woman who made bad choices in life but a 16-year-old girl happy and confident in her life. The match is a huge success for Maureen’s team as she marks several points for the school. Her parents who watched her are so proud of her, her mom publishes the pictures as she says:
